American Airlines announced a new promotion, pitching U.S. domestic flights for as cheap as $69 each way. To get the ultra low fares, you must book round-trip flights from AA.com by August 24, 2010 for travel before December 15, 2010.

Keep in mind that there will be some regular fees tacked on to these low fares. These fees include the federal excise tax ($3.70 per flight), local airport charges, and the September 11th security fee ($2.50 per flight).

The cheapest fares on sale are:

• Atlanta to Chicago
• Atlanta to Miami
• Chicago to Atlanta
• Chicago to Miami

You can also fly between Boston and Raleigh/Durham, Chicago and Pittsburgh, Chicago and Orlando, and Milwaukee and Dallas for $74 each way, not including the fees mentioned above.

Generally speaking, as of August 11, 2010, the sale fares for the above itineraries are widely available on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday departures. If you need to leave on a Sunday or Friday, forget it. Same goes for the week of Thanksgiving. Specifically, sale fares are generally not available on November 23, 24, 26, 27, 28, or 29.
